Through out the opening the tpyes of shots which tend to dominate are, close ups and medium shots of the character or the surroundings. The very opening uses a close up, on the dusty bookshelf and whats on it, this is a key scene as that is a important place later on in the film, the director gives the viewers hints like this through out the whole movie, and the opening, keeping the viewer intrested by slowly allowing them to piece together the information that is presented to them. There is also more close ups of the aircraft and the pilot and what is generally happening in it, for like a solid 30-40sec just changing angles and points of view at random intervals. Near the end of the opening there is the medium shot showing the two characters speaking in the house, but that also than quickly changes as they use coninuity editing to do close ups of the characters when they speak and switch between the two accordingly. The final close up which ends the scene is the one of the back of Coopers head as he looks out the window and shows the audience the setting of the film.
Mis-En-Scene -
The lighting is subtle yet clear in the opening scene when the dusty bookshelf is shown, when the part with the aircraft is up, the lighting changes to be very vibrant and lively with the bright blue sky bieng shown, than the scene in the night is of course is quiet dark and just enough for the viewer to be able to make out the two characters. Their is some props like the toy aircraft on the bookshelf and some of the things around them, and of course the big aircraft that Cooper is flying. Howver excpet that the characters do not make use of any other props. The scenes are kept clean and smooth to keep the viewer focused on whats happening to the characters.
Use Of Sound -
The first couple seconds of the opening where the close up of the bookshelf happens have a very serene sort of sound, presenting the place as sort of soft and gentle, however after the scene switches to the aircraft crashing this changes a lot. The viewer gets hit with the harsh sounds of wind and the screams of the main character, Joseph Cooper. The sound gets even more intense as the noises of the computer system, beeping, alarms and such join the mayhem. It all than cuts off suddenly to another quieter setting when the two characters exchange dialog in hushed voices as it is presented to the audience that what they have just seen was a flashback in a dream of Coopers past.
Use Of Editing -
The does well to keep the editing unoticed, although it is simple. The scenes are cut a lot in the space of the two to three minutes the opening lasts for, the editor cut it in two three, using blackouts, from the bookshelf close up, to the characters point of view in the plane and some close ups of the inside of it, than blacking out to a medium shot of the two characters exchanging in conversation in the middle of the night.
Typography -
The typography is very minimalistic in this film opening, sticking to a non-flashy text. Its a pretty large font size, and is kept a clear solid white colour making it more noticable on the background of the bland colours of the dusty shelf in the background allow the user to focus on the text which bieng presented to the them. However there is not much text, only the movie title is shown for a brief amount of time.
