The whole of the opening is close ups of different actions of a character or things that seemingly happen for reasons unknown to the viewer. The first couple of seconds of the opening titles seem to show a character, presumibly a younger person, or a smaller female character carrying a lit lighter through the house for unkown reasons. There is a side on close up of the characters feet moving down the stairs peridoically in a slightly creepish manor, than it cuts, to another close up of a note on fire, quickly burning away. Than there is another cut, to a character upstairs. Which proceeds to carry out the same actions as the priveous one but in a hushed and hurried way, of course all of this is shown in different close ups just as with the other character. All this creates a mysterious vibe around the film, as the viewer in unable to establish what the wider picture of the house and the characters actually is. The whole thing than ends with an door shutting, on its own. Enforcing what the viewer can sort of already establish.
Mis-En-Scene -
The lighting of the scene is hard to actually analyse due to it bieng in black and white, however you can tell that the only light for the first character is the brightly burning flame of the lighter it is carrying, the whole set is lit in a descrete manor to accompany the scary and mysterious feel it is ment to have. The only prop seems to be the lighter, and the whole opening scene is set in a house although not much of it is shown. This keeps the viewer intrigued.
Use Of Sound-
The sound in this opening is really important, its music which is fast paced and is the sort you would get from some sorrt of old fashioned childrens music box or something among them lines. It carries on throughout the whole of the opening and is acompanied by other simpler sound effects such as the door slaming shut. In a scary movie sound is alaways really important, as it could litterally make or brake a movie, as the scenes could jut not be scary at all if the music was innapropiate, howver that is handled well in this opening.
Use Of Edititng -
The editing is overall quiet simplistic, some cuts from one close up to another, however there is one special effect used, when the character runs down the stairs it is slowed down in the footage doing a slow-mo style sort of shot. However that is as far as it goes in terms of editing.
Typography -
The movie title and other text are shown periodically on the screen through out the whole opening. They are a simple font, and are grey - white sort of colour to match the black and white style. It is of a medium sized font and is kept off the middle of the screen to stop the viewer from getting distracted from what is actually happening.
