Company Case Study - Warp Films

Warp Films is an independent British film and television production company based in the UK, based in Sheffield. They are also further affiliated with a sister company called Warp Films Australia based in Melbourne Australia. They were founded in the year 1999 however there first productions seem to start around 2002. Skipping to the current day, Warp Films is now an influential company driven by the passion for making films, they specialise in lower budget films and make little profit compared to companies such as Warner Brothers or Universal Studios. They benefit from filming in the UK as its cheaper, due to less taxes, making it easier for smaller companies like them.

They create an considerable amount of impactful low budget films, some examples of these are Four Lions or This Is England. The company really does push in the media industry, Four Lions was quiet a controversial film and had a dark comedy sort of feel, which I want to use for my final media piece.
This Is England was overall the most profitable for the company with the a large budget of 1.5 million british pounds, and profit was made of about 5.5 million pounds, the most the company has ever made.

This shows they are not afraid to challenege corporate giants, and to prove that indepndant cinema and production companys can still make a stand in the industry. The passion behind the film making in this company allows them to carry on releasing meaningfull cinema and surpass the audiences expectations once again.

Overall Warp Films have also heavily influenced my outlook on my project, and have driven me to re-consider some options by showing that it is possible, even with low budget.
